The Centre for Speech Technology Research at the University of Edinburgh uses Microcone Recorder in their Ambient Spotlight project, and other research into human communication in meetings.

"The Microcone is a unique, high quality product that lets us capture meetings and discussions easily and without disruption.  It is central to our work in including recorded meetings in personal information management systems."
Steve Renals, Professor of Speech Technology, University of Edinburgh.

The Institute of Work and Organizational Psychology at the University of Neuchatel in Switzerland is using the Dev-Audio’s Microcone Recorder to sense and analyze nonverbal behaviors in small group interactions and job interviews. The research group of Prof. Marianne Schmid Mast is investigating audio nonverbal behaviors (e.g., speaking time, turn taking, and interruptions) of group members and job applicants and its relation to personality assessment, hiring decision, and job performance.

"Being able to use the Microcone in our research has the definite advantage of saving us much time and effort for coding of speech-related nonverbal behavior in social interactions where two or more individuals talk. Moreover, the Microcone produces more reliable data than conventional coding."
Professor Marianne Schmid Mast, University of Neuchatel.

Dev-Audio’s Microcone Recorder is enabling the audio recording of group meetings for the Sensing and Analysing Organizational Non-Verbal Behavior (SONVB) and NOVICOM research projects within the Social Computing Group at the IDIAP Research Institute in Switzerland. The projects, led Dr Daniel Gatica-Perez, are developing methods to analyse nonverbal group communication via computational methods.

"My research group uses the Microcone to develop methods to analyze group interaction automatically. I cannot think of an audio sensing system in the market that is as portable, easy to use, and extensible."
Daniel Gatica-Perez, Senior Researcher, Idiap Research Institute

The Speech and Hearing Group at the University of Sheffield use the Microcone in developing next generation speech technologies, such as automated meeting transcription.

“The Microcone is one of the very few recordings solution designed for the capturing of meetings. It excels in its compactness and high build quality, allowing for pristine clarity and performance. Our group uses the Microcone to bring speech technology to a range of applications, from meetings to assistive technology."
Dr Thomas Hain, Senior Lecturer, University of Sheffield
